Bourbon Apple Crisp

Have you ever walked into a Costco and lost your mind? Like, yes, we will get this pack of 18 apples because LOOK AT THAT DEAL and we can definitely polish them off? And then you obviously cannot finish the apples but you don’t want to throw them away?

Enter: apple crisp.


As an added bonus, I had random leftover booze from my last house party and thought bourbon would be a fantastic addition to my dessert. And I was right, as always. This apple crisp basically tastes like apple pie, without having to do the work of making a pie crust. It’s warm and comforting, and makes your house smell outrageously good.

For the filling:

  • 6 apples, cored and sliced (I used Fuji)
  • 2 shots of bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

And the topping:

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter (12 tablespoons), cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped and toasted pecans

First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, combine the ingredients for the filling and toss the mixture well so the apples are evenly coated.


In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the butter and use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix the butter into the dry ingredients, until you start to get large crumbs. Add the toasted pecans and fold them into the topping.

Pour the apple mixture into a buttered 13×9 baking dish and top with the topping. DSC_0223

Bake this off at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until the topping is nice and brown. Let it cool off a bit if you want uniform squares, but it will be prettttty difficult to wait because this smelled uh-mazing.
